Saving $26

I am ALL about saving money wherever whenever. It occurred to John and I that we could save mucho dinero if we learned to cut John's hair ourselves. For about two years now we have just been using a #2 on the clippers and going crazy. Recently Charlotte has decided to try her hand at it. Thank you Charlotte!!!

And now for this weekends pics.

Here's Luke's "after" picture. It was a bit scary there when I was half way done with the job just using a #8 on the clippers. I kept looking over my shoulder at my mom making a nervous face and she would stifle her laughter. But with a little bit of #6 on the sides and then a nice slathering of gel, preto! A beautiful little man emerged.

Whenever we make a fire Luke calls it a "fireparty."

We decided to have a fire party tonight and while we were at it roasted marshmallows too!

Oral surgery

Tonight I needed my mom to perform oral surgery. You see I kept being harassed by a pesky popcorn kernel. I know you feel me on that one.

While I was laying down and we were getting the flashlight all set up Charlotte asked what we were doing. John passed by and said "Oh just taking mommy's brain out" really casually. Without missing a beat Charlotte says:

"Oh. I hope you don't die mommy"

(Charlotte: Will you pl-eeeeease be a stand up comedian?? Professionals work on their timing for ages to get it perfect and that just seems to come naturally to you my cute girl.)

Cinderella comes to clean our house

Charlotte was recently given a Cinderella outfit that has the ballgown on one side and the "work dress" on the other. I got up early today and started cleaning and she yelled "wait! I have an idea!" and ran and changed into this, grabbed a rag and started helping me. Totally adorable.

Then she got bored after 3 minutes and went off to color.

Charlotte-isms

About a week before Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday I was picking Charlotte up from school. We got in the car and while driving she announced:

"On Monday we are celebrating a dead man."

Comments like these are not uncommon. Charlotte asks the most bizarre and grownup questions, forcing me to become accustom to this. In fact, I would say a full 1/3 of our time together is spent with me grappling for appropriate answers to the questions she has come up with regarding reincarnation, death, the responsibilities of a motherhood, right and wrong, childbirth, etc.

My response to this little gem:

"Oooh, you mean Martin Luther King, Jr.?"

Charlotte: "Yah. He's dead right?"

Cut to Friday afternoon. Charlotte hands me a profile picture she has colored of the said man. While handing it to me she nods towards it (like a politician) and states the obvious:

"The dead man."

(For those offended by this, my apologies. She had a long lesson about the amazing things he has done, so don't worry. My purpose here is not to review his greatness, but show some insight into Charlotte's amazing and hysterical sense of humor).

Bucket of Ice

At Charlotte birthday party a few weeks ago her friend Ava brought her a bucket of ice from a snow trip from earlier that day. SO COOL!!! Charlotte was floored. She loves eating snow.

Luke has been into this Ben Ten person. Since we don't watch regular TV his knowledge of Ben Ten is from kids at school and then stuff he makes up I'm sure. Anyway, pictured here is his second Ben Ten watch. Charlotte bought it for him when she did her birthday shopping with Nana. So thoughtful!

Charlotte loves the world

Charlotte loves riding in the car with her window down, this is a new thing. While doing this last month I copied down her heart-felt monologue while trying to drive and not laugh:

"I just really love all these things like the streets and Trader Joes and gas stations and roller skates and all the people."

A funny Luke conversation

Luke: I wish there were no bloodest things in the whole entire world.

Allie: Bloodest things?

Luke: Ya know..like when you fall down and get blood.
